Found this fascinating op-ed on school reform by hard-charging education reformer and D.C. Chancellor Michelle Rhee. Amy and I were talking about it all evening.  
She writes about the long process that led to what seems to be a mutually beneficial step away from the status quo on teacher contracts together with AFT’s Randi Weingarten, and why she thinks NYC should look to her example.   
Approved by 80-20 margin by DC’s teachers, Rhee gets to try to raise the bar on teacher performance, while also rewarding those teachers that do make her cut with higher pay, and what Weingarten says is a bit more transparency from Rhee’s office.   I hope, like everybody, that it works out.  For the kids, the teachers, for everybody.
